Every day, thousands of musicians release new singles, EPs and albums. The one common thing across most of them is how awful their cover art is. Mainly, because hiring a graphic designer to create it is costly and out of their budget. They would prefer to invest that money into their music, gear or tools but not the art.

Daft Art was born out of that problem. A friend of my mine was about to release a new track and she asked if I could help her with the cover art. I procrastinated for months until ai-generated art became a thing and finally found the motivation to build something that would help my friend and everyone else.

The first version of Daft Art focused on nailing the value proposition, testing out the waters and seeing if anyone is interested in such a product.

The goal was to find out if people are interested and if they are interested enough to pay money for it. Once released, it made a few sales which was a good enough indicator for me to continue working on the idea.

The second version of Daft Art focused on scaling the concept and making it more mature and turning it into a scalable product.

The website is aimed at creatives and delivers a creative value prop. I wanted to design a website that looks good, leaves good first impressions and delivers on its promise.

Building Daft Art was a great learning experience as it was my first time dabbling with a lot of technologies, building a Node API, setting up a Mongo database, dealing with AI models, marketing a product from scratch and receiving my first Stripe purchase notification. Up until now, Daft Art has acquired more than 5k users with new ones joining every day. Although it didn't make much money, I'm proud of how it turned out and it was a great learning experience.
